Old Habits Are Like Washing Away Old Hair

Since growing my hair long, one thing that’s always amazed me is how hair gets everywhere. Just when I think I’ve rinsed it all away, there it is again—clinging to the drain, the screen, or somehow stuck to my arm.

It got me thinking: brushing out our hair is a bit like letting go of old habits or behaviours that no longer serve us. At first, it can be a gentle process—combing through strands, untangling with care. But every so often, we hit a knot. One that won’t budge without a bit of pain. In that moment, the only way forward is to face it head-on, pull through, and release it.

And just like a knot finally untangled, there’s a feeling of lightness. Relief. That is… until you spot another strand stuck to the shower wall, or winding around your fingers. You chase it with the shower hose, thinking it's gone, only to find it later, lingering on your towel.

Old patterns can be just like that. You think you've worked through them, and then—bam—they show up again in a moment you weren't expecting.

But here's the thing: with patience, awareness, and persistence, they do start to loosen their grip. Just like hair, eventually they stop showing up in the same way.

I'd love to know—does this resonate with you? Have you noticed any old habits showing up in new ways?
